As we get closer to Christmas, it’s the coldest time of year, and our customers across Worthing, Lancing and other areas are always keen to know if their conservatory or orangery can be used all year round. After all, a conservatory or orangery is a big investment and so of course you’re going to want to get as much out of it as you can.
The short answer is that indeed you can enjoy year-round use. Modern conservatories in particular often feature insulated bases or cavity walls and double-glazed units, not to mention roofs which have good thermal efficiency.
Here are some tips to make it even more possible.
Keep draughts at bay
Check windows and doors to see if any air is getting in, keep seals on windows in tip-top condition, and consider getting some draught excluders for the doors.
When it comes to keeping warmth in and staying cosy, good blinds or thick curtains will also help.
Don’t be floored by the cold
Is your conservatory losing more heat than would be ideal through the floor? Think about having a warmer wooden floor or rugs over the floor, or even a carpet with a thick underlay. It’s also worth looking for a high Porcelain Enamel Institute (PEI) rating for an indication of a tile’s durability and hardness.
Make more heat.
See our previous blog on the different ways you can bring heat into your conservatory.
Changing your conservatory
Making changes like installing PVC-u windows can make a real difference to staying warm since they help to keep the temperature more consistent. We can talk to you and advise on your own project.
Remember, at Worthing Windows we can supply Ultraframe Conservaglass which is a new and pioneering kind of glazing which has been specifically devised so that conservatories stay cosy while the British winter does its worst.
This innovation works by retaining heat at the coldest times of year, and in reverse in warmer weather thanks to the exclusion of solar radiation.
Equally, however, tiled roofs can also offer an excellent level of thermal insulation.
Stay cosy
With scented candles and throws or rugs on the sofa, you can create an even warmer and more welcoming ambience in your conservatory or orangery.
So there really is no reason why you shouldn’t be able to benefit from the extra space a conservatory offers from January to December – and all the months in between!
