Especially at this time of year, and particularly in coastal towns such as Lancing and Goring-by-Sea, condensation on windows can become troublesome. Luckily, if you choose a quality supplier such as Worthing Windows, you are much less likely to encounter problems of this kind.
That said, there are still things you can do as preventative measures to keep condensation at bay. Equally, while condensation is not, generally speaking, a building fault, modern homes, built to save energy, can reduce the escaping of water vapour, raising the risk of moisture forming on surfaces.
And it’s worth understanding the root cause of this issue. Essentially, when water vapour comes into contact with cool surfaces, it condenses to form droplets of water or dampness. As warm air reaches a colder surface, it cools down and can’t retain the same levels of water vapour, so the excess gets released and turns into condensation.
Because your windows are exposed to the temperature outside, they’re probably your home’s chilliest surface, especially if you don’t have double glazed windows.
Here are some things you can do to lessen condensation, and keep energy bills down at the same time:

  • Ensure your tumble dryer is vented outside.
  • When cooking, keep steam in by always using lids on pans.
  • Use the extractor fan above the cooker hood when cooking, if you have one.
  • Do the same in the bathroom when having a shower or bath – turn on the extractor fan. If you don’t have one, at least keep a window ajar.
  • Keep your home generally well ventilated and heated. Specifically, it’s important that you keep your property evenly heated. If some rooms are warmer than others warm in air in
  • the heated areas absorbs water vapour, and will migrate throughout the property. As it meets your windows’ cold glass, it condenses and forms condensation.
  • Fit trickle vents at the tops of all window frames.
