Large Conservatory overlooking garden with family sat down and children playing outsideThe quality glazing and insulation of modern conservatories mean they can be comfortably used all year round.

These home improvements really are incredibly versatile. That just begs one question – what will you do with the extra space in yours? Here are some ideas:

Dining room

Use your conservatory as a dining room, especially if your ‘official’ dining room is rather formal and you want somewhere with a more relaxed feel, especially for summer barbecues or parties where you need to retreat indoors to eat because of the weather.

In particular, you may want to use your conservatory as a year-round, light-filled breakfast room.

Gym

Gyms and group exercise are not for everyone, and not everyone has a fitness centre they like near them or even a local one at all. But with a conservatory, you can have your own at home. Create a light, airy space where you love exercising, and save on gym memberships and travel costs.

Playroom for children

Children these days seem to have more things than ever, so having somewhere toys can be played with and stored away from the rest of the house is a huge bonus – especially if it’s on the ground floor, where adults can watch from an adjoining room. And, as the kids grow up, it can become more of a games room, or a place where teenagers can relax with their friends and listen to music.

Home Office/Study

Escape the inevitable distractions of family life and work at home with everything set out as you need it with a study in your conservatory. Create a light, airy space where you can be productive and concentrate. No more clearing away of the dining room table for dinner every evening! When you’re not working in it, the children can use it as a quiet place to do their homework, as well.

Bedroom

If you’re thinking about having a conservatory, using this space as a bedroom may not have leapt immediately to mind. But it is an option, especially for busy times when you may have guests, such as at Christmas. With the right blinds and heating, there’s no reason why you can’t have an extra downstairs sleeping quarters.

People also use their conservatory as a sun room, for growing plants or just as extra sitting and relaxation space for the family. And a conservatory’s versatility means you can use it for different purposes as your needs change over the years – the options really are endless.
